Softball Defeats Dayton, 8-4, In Comeback Victory

The Friars scored seven runs in the sixth inning to complete the comeback.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College softball team (15-13, 7-2 BIG EAST) defeated the University of Dayton Flyers (15-13, 6-6 Atlantic 10) on Thursday, April 2, at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.) threw a season-high eight strikeouts to record the win.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Dayton took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning.
  • The Flyers added a run in the second to extend their lead to 4-0.
  • Nikki Gallardo (Lexington, S.C.) had an RBI single in the fourth to cut the deficit to 4-1.
  • The Friars erupted for seven runs in the fifth inning, capitalizing on multiple errors and highlighted by RBI from Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.), Elisa Smith (Glen Allen, Va.) and Gallardo, to take the lead (8-4).
  • Grifone pitched five scoreless innings of relief and recorded eight strikeouts to secure the win.

The Friars will host a single game on Tuesday, April 7, against Holy Cross at Glay Field. The game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. and will be streamed on FriarsLive.
