Men’s Lacrosse Defeated by No. RV/18 Fairfield, 15-7

The Friars will return to action on Saturday, March 8, when they host Loyola (Md.) on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.


FAIRFIELD, Conn. –The Providence College men's lacrosse team was defeated by No. RV/18 Fairfield, 15-7, on Saturday, March 1 in Fairfield, Conn. The Friars dropped to 3-3 on the season. Ryan Bell (Smithtown, N.Y.) paced the Friars with three points on one goal and two assists. Jack Horrigan (Lutherville, N.Y.) also added two goals for the Friars.  
 
 
1st Quarter: 
Fairfield started the game with a goal at 14:02 to take a 1-0 lead. The Stags then added another goal to take a 2-0 lead (8:30).  
Jack Horrigan (Lutherville, Md.) got the Friars on the board with a goal at 6:25, cutting Fairfield's lead to 2-1. 
• The Friars outshot Fairfield 11-6 in the first quarter.  
• Fairfield goalkeeper Owen Hirsch recorded eight saves in the first quarter of play.  
 
 
2nd Quarter: 
• Fairfield re-gained a two-goal lead at 3-1 lead with a quick score to start the second quarter (12:55).  
• Providence answered with a goal from Parker Kennedy (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) at 12:10, bringing the score to 3-2. 
• The Stags answered with two quick goals that extended their lead to 5-2 (6:20).  
• Fairfield found the back of the net again with another pair of back-to-back goals to take a 7-2 lead with 2:31 left in the first half.  
• Fairfield outshot the Friars 14-6 in the second quarter, and 20-17 in the first half.  
• Fairfield goalkeeper Hirsch recorded 12 saves and a .857 save percentage in the first half of play.  
• Friar goalkeeper Dan Donahue (Weston, Mass.) netted nine saves in the first half.  
• Fairfield led the way from the faceoff 'X' in the first half, recording 6-10.  
 
 
3rd Quarter: 
Ryan Bell (Smithtown, N.Y.) got the Friars on the board early in the second half with a quick goal that cut the Stags lead to 7-3 (14:40). 
• Fairfield answered with a pair of back-to-back goals and extended the lead to 9-3 (11:47).  
• The Stags extended their lead to 10-3 with another goal at 9:35.  
Rhett Chambers (Larchmont, N.Y.) scored for the Friars at 8:30, bringing the score to 10-4. 
• Fairfield continued to stay in command, scoring three unanswered goals extending their lead to 13-4 (1:58).  
  
4th Quarter 
• Horrigan scored for the Friars to cut the Stags' lead to 13-5 with 11:56 remaining in the game.  
• Fairfield continued to respond quickly to Friar goals, adding another to extend their lead to 14-5 at 10:18. 
• The Stags took a double-digit lead over the Friars (15-5) with 7:52 left to play in the game.  
• Jay Wilkerson (Baltimore, Md.) scored back-to-back goals with under a minute left to play. Fairfield held a 15-7 lead as time expired.  
 
  
Notes: 
• Bell recorded three points on one goal and two assists. The Friars' all-time leading scorer owns 199 career points, continuing to build a cushion in the top spot. 
• Bell is also the program's all-time assist leader (143 assists). 
• Horrigan and Wilkerson each scored two goals for the Friars. Horrigan's two goals moved him into a tie for 12th all-time in career goals at Providence with a total of 87.  
• Fairfield goalie Hirsch recorded 14 saves and a .737 save percentage.  
• Donahue recorded 14 saves and a .500 save percentage.  
• Fairfield tallied 12 caused turnovers to the Friars 5.  
• The teams went 15-15 from the faceoff 'X'.  
 
 
WHAT'S NEXT...The Friars will host Loyola (Md.) on Saturday, March 8. The game will be played on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. Faceoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
