Men’s Lacrosse Defeated At No. 17/15 Georgetown, 14-13

The Friars will host their BIG EAST home opener versus Villanova on Saturday, April 5.

WASHINGTON, D.C. –The Providence College men's lacrosse team was defeated by No.17/15 Georgetown (6-3, 1-0 BIG EAST), 14-13, on Saturday, March 29 in Washington, D.C. With the loss, the Friars fell to 4-6 on the season and 0-1 in BIG EAST play. Jack Horrigan (Lutherville, Md.) led the Friar offense with six points on five goals and one assist. Richie Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass.) added five points on three goals and two assists.  
 
1st Quarter: 
Luke Fliss (Pittsford, N.Y.) started the afternoon scoring for the Friars with a goal that gave PC a 1-0 lead (12:45). The goal marked the freshman's first career goal.  
• The Hoyas responded with a goal of their own that tied the game at 1-1 with 9:22 remaining in the first quarter.
• Joseph found the back of the net for the Friars and regained the lead at 2-1. Rhett Chambers (Larchmont, N.Y.) added another goal for the Friars that extended the lead to 3-1 with 4:32 remaining in the first quarter of action. 
• The Hoyas found a quick response with a goal that cut the Friars lead to 3-2 (2:04).  
• A minute later, Horrigan delivered a shot and scored. The goal extended the Friars lead to 4-1 with 1:46 remaining in the opening quarter.  
  
 
2nd Quarter: 
Joseph opened the second quarter with his second goal of the day that helped the Friars extend the lead to 5-2 (14:49).  
• Georgetown followed with four straight goals to end the first half. The Hoyas led 6-5 after two quarters of action.  
Dan Donahue (Weston, Mass.) recorded 8 saves on a .571 save percentage in the first half.  
• Georgetown held the advantage in faceoffs, winning nine to the Friars' four in the first half. 
• The Hoyas outshot the Friars 19 to 16 through two quarters.  
 
  
3rd Quarter: 
• The Hoyas opened the third quarter with a goal that extended their lead to 7-5 (13:58).  
• Horrigan provided a quick response with his second goal of the day for the Friars. Georgetown led 7-6 with 13:25 remaining in the quarter.  
• The Hoyas added back-to-back goals and took a three-goal lead at 9-6 (6:50).  
• Horrigan found a response for Providence with back-to-back goals that cut the lead to one at 9-8 (4:08).  
Sam Brazell found the back of the net and tied the game at 9-9 with 3:23 remaining in the third quarter.  
 
4th Quarter 
• Parker Kennedy (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) opened the fourth quarter with a goal that gave the Friars a 10-9 lead (12:04).  
• The Hoyas answered with back-to-back goals and regained the lead at 11-10 with 9:11 remaining.  
• Joseph added his third goal of the day and tied the game at 11-11 with 5:51 remaining in the fourth quarter.  
• Georgetown answered with another pair of back-to-back goals that extended their lead to 13-11 (4:34).  
• Chris Matia (Alexandria, Va.) found a quick response and scored for the Friars to cut the Hoya lead to 14-13 with 4:04 remaining.  
• Georgetown responded with a quick goal on the next possession that extended their lead to 14-12 (3:28).  
• Horrigan netted his fifth goal of the day for the Friars and cut the Hoya lead to 14-13 with 2:42 remaining in the game.  
• Georgetown held onto a 14-13 lead at the final horn.  
 
  
Notes: 
Horrigan tied a career high with six points on a season-best five goals and one assist. The senior has now recorded 123 career points (99 goals / 24 assists) and moved to 16th on the Friars all-time scoring list. Horrigan has also recorded 99 career goals and ranks sixth in all-time goals scored at Providence.  
• Bell recorded four points on four assists. The Friars' all-time leading scorer owns 212 career points and is the first player in program history to reach 200 points. Bell is also the program's all-time assist leader (150 assists). 
• Jospeh recorded five points on three goals and two assists. The junior has scored 76 career goals and ranks tied for 18th for the Friars in all-time goals. Joseph has also recorded 105 career points (76 goals / 23 assists).  
• Donahue recorded 15 saves and a .517 save percentage for the Friars.  
  The Friars went 14-30 from the faceoff 'X' 
• Georgetown outshot the Friars 38-35. 
 
WHAT'S NEXT...The Friars will host Villanova in their BIG EAST home opener on Saturday, April 5.  Faceoff is set for 12:00 p.m. in Providence, R.I.
