Men's Lacrosse Defeated At No. 18/19 Saint Jospeh's, 16-8
The Friars will open BIG EAST play on Saturday, March 29 at Georgetown.
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Providence College men's lacrosse team was defeated by No.18/19 Saint Joseph's, 16-8, on Saturday, March 22 in Philadelphia, Pa. With the loss, the Friars fell to 4-5 on the season.
Ryan Bell (Smithtown, N.Y.) led the Friar offense with two points on one goal and one assist. The Friars will open BIG EAST play on Saturday, March 29 at Georgetown with faceoff set for 12:00 p.m.
1st Quarter:
• Saint Joseph's scored five unanswered goals in the first quarter.

Richie Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored the first goal for the Friars at 1:37, bringing the score to 5-1. The goal marks Joseph's 100th career point scored.
• The Hawks outshot the Friars 12-4 in the first quarter.
2nd Quarter:
• The Hawks scored two consecutive goals, extending their lead to 7-1.
• The Friars scored two consecutive goals cutting Saint Joseph's lead to 7-3 at 8:12. Bell and
Rhett Chambers (Larchmont, N.Y.) found the back of the net.
• Saint Joseph's scored at 5:27 to take an 8-3 lead.
• Providence outshot Saint Joseph's 9-8 in the second quarter.
• Both goalies recorded three saves in the half.
• The Hawks forced eight caused turnovers, while Providence notched only two.
3rd Quarter:
•
Sam Brazell (DeWitt, N.Y.) opened the second half with a goal for the Friars, cutting the Hawks lead to 8-4.
• Saint Joseph's responded with five unanswered goals to extend its lead to 13-4.
• The Hawks outshot the Friars 14-12 in the third quarter.
4th Quarter
• Saint Joseph's opened the fourth quarter with two consecutive goals (15-4).

Chris Jaskiewicz (Winter Park, Fla.) scored for Providence at 12:23, bringing the score to 15-5.
• The Hawks scored at 7:42 extending their lead to 16-5.

Tyler Flynn (Setauket, N.Y.) recorded a goal for the Friars at 7:12 (16-6).

Chris Matia (Alexandria, Va.) and
Chris Simonton (Setauket, N.Y.) both found the back of the net with under a minute left. Saint Joseph's led 16-8 at the final horn.
Notes:
• Joseph's goal in the first quarter marked his 100th career point with the Friars.
• Bell recorded two points on one goal and one assist. The Friars' all-time leading scorer owns 208 career points and is the first player in program history to reach 200 points. Bell is also the program's all-time assist leader (146 assists).
• Horrigan recorded two assists for the Friars and tied for 17th on the Friars' all-time scoring list with 117 career points. He is also tied for sixth all-time in career goals at Providence with 94.
• The Friars went 14-28 from the faceoff 'X'
